Kristen Dahlke is the owner and lead designer at Lemon & Ginger Home Furnishings and Design. She started the design firm in 2016 and began the journey of pursuing the career she’d always dreamed of having.
Kristen is a Speech/Language Pathologist by degree and training, and she practiced in that field for 9 years, before her husband and she decided that she would stay home to care for their children. Kristen says, “This was not an easy decision, but it was right for our family. While I was caring for our children, I was also running the administrative aspects of my husband’s business. That business experience was invaluable in teaching me the skills and giving me the confidence I needed to make this jump into a business of my own.”
During the time she was a practicing Speech/Language Pathologist and while she was a stay-at-home mom, Kristen happily provided design and decorating advice to friends and family, working on all kinds of projects large and small, from simple paint color selection to complete home renovations. She tells us, “It became clear to me, and those I worked with, that this is what I should be doing for my career, but the time was not right. We relocated to Virginia 7 years ago, and a couple years later we decided as a family, that it was the perfect time for me to pursue this as a career. I have been staying extremely busy and the way this business has taken off has far exceeded my expectations. People have been wonderful to welcome me into their homes and trust me with their designs. I strongly believe that the most important part of designing is recognizing in the client what it is they are looking for in their home. It is about creating spaces that meet their needs, reduce their stress, and give them the feelings of comfort and relaxation that all of us deserve to have in our homes.”
