RCEN 9th Anniversary Celebration

It's our birthday and we invite you to come to HELP:

 - Help RCEN celebrate eight successful, exciting years in Richmond
 - Help support the Central Virginia Foodbank
 - Help yourself or someone on your gift list (early Christmas shopping anyone?)

Help RCEN celebrate! Our ninth year begins with installation of the 2010-2011 Executive Board, presentation of member awards and recognition of our corporate and member partners. And what's a birthday party without presents? Everyone gets a great "goody" bag and is eligible for door prizes.

Help support the Central Virginia Foodbank. Our annual PB&T drive provides peanut butter and canned tuna to help stock the Foodbank shelves. When you're at the grocery store, remember CVFB and add a couple of extra jars of peanut butter and cans of tuna to your cart. Each can or jar gets you a raffle ticket! (Checks are welcome, too!) Last year's event resulted in 225 pounds of PB&T and $347.25 - enough to provide 1,961 meals to the hungry!

Help yourself or someone on your gift list. Silent and live auction items will be available and include gift certificates from local businesses like Puritan Cleaners and Vogue Flowers and Gifts and restaurants like the Boathouse and Bookbinders. Get yourself a "treat for me" item and check off some of your gift list items as well. And remember, a portion of the proceeds go to the Central Virginia Foodbank.

This month's meeting sponsor is Markbeech Marketing

It's not too late to showcase your business to our members and guests! To donate items for raffle/auction, contact Ashley Stefanko. To provide items for the goody bags, contact Camille LaCognata.

Iron Butterflies: Women Transforming Themselves and the World

Presented by: Dr. Birute Regine

Dr. Birute Regine will lead a conversation based on practices and knowledge developed for her latest book, Iron Butterflies:  Women Transforming Themselves and the World.  In Iron Butterflies, Dr. Regine puts femininity and masculinity in context and explores what it truly means to be a successful woman today. During the program we will explore three ways you can develop a feminine presence at work. This feminine presence is a holistic, relational, compassionate, and non-linear learn-as-you-go leadership style that transforms vulnerabilities into strengths.

Birute Regine, EdD, spent 25 years as a psychotherapist in private practice and now works as an executive / life coach, facilitator, speaker and author. She previously co-authored the critically acclaimed The Soul at Work: Embracing Complexity Science for Business Success with her husband, noted science writer Roger Lewin. In her new book, Iron Butterflies: Women Transforming Themselves and The World, Birute explores what it truly means to be a successful woman today and examines how women together can help each other become ”Iron Butterflies” and bring greater balance and well-being to a world sorely out of balance.

ABWA is a national association of working women in diverse occupations, providing them opportunities to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition. ABWA is devoted to advancing working women through the development of individual skills, leadership abilities and business relationships. There are ABWA chapters across the country; Richmond area membership is over 200. ABWA also helps thousands of women realize their educational goals through local and national scholarships.

ABW Day was established in 1982 by the members of the American Business Women’s Association. It is a national day to recognize the achievements and contributions of millions of women in the American work force. In 1983 and 1986, joint congressional resolutions were passed designating September 22 as a national day of observance. President Ronald Reagan issued a presidential proclamation following each resolution. The first Richmond area celebration was in 1986.

The Richmond area 2010 ABW Day celebration will bring together Richmond area businesswomen at the Ramada Plaza Richmond West Hotel (formerly the Sheraton Richmond West) on September 10. A networking reception will begin at 6:00 pm and the Awards Dinner will start at 6:30 pm.

The event will include the Richmond STAR awards, to be presented to outstanding local women in the fields of the arts, education, law, media and small business management.

The Council's annual Friendship, Leadership and Scholarship Awards will be presented, as well as the Council Woman of the Year. Council officers and award recipients from the last 25 years will be honored.

Confirmed guests currently include ABWA National President Casey Coven, National Vice President Pam Carvell, District IV Vice President Barbara Pedersen and 2010 American Business Woman of ABWA Doris Brown.
